Parliament open again

The public has been officially welcomed back to Parliament grounds for the first time since the anti-mandate protest and occupation ended in March. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern officially reopened the precinct yesterday.

Engineer’s $10k fine

A Taranaki engineer has been fined $10,000 for health and safety failures in his advice to a building developer. In an attempt to level land, the developer dug about 1.7 metres down on one side of the site, exposing a cliff-like face. Andrew Fraser dismissed concerns expressed by neighbours. They said he was either unaware of the cut or authorised it, knowing it was unsafe.

Goodfellow to go

Long-time National Party president Peter Goodfellow is standing down. He has been in the job 13 years, and said now was the right time for someone else to take over. Party members will elect a new president at its annual meeting in early August.
