With the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, the Government announced a one-off public holiday, which we observed on Monday, 26th September. Even though this public holiday is a one-off, under employment law we treat it like all other public holidays

What your employee will be entitled to will depend on whether they worked on the public holiday and whether it is a day they would normally work. Generally speaking, the following will apply:

· If your employee physically worked on Monday and this was a normal day of work for them, they are paid time and a half. That means 1.5 times their normal hourly rate. They are also entitled to a day in lieu, which is an alternative paid day off. The employee is entitled to the day in lieu if they work at any time on the public holiday, even if it is not their normal working...
