Essential to get as many vaccinated as we can

This year, the key to a safe summer is simple: ensuring as many people as possible have had their two vaccine doses, so we can all do more of what we enjoy.

It’s been fantastic to see so many people here in Dunedin rolling up their sleeves and getting their shots.

Just over three million Kiwis have now been fully vaccinated, with Dunedin leading the way as the most fully vaccinated city during October.

But we still have a way to go if we want to make the most of the coming summer.

This isn’t just about keeping our community safe — although that’s a big part of it. We know that getting vaccinated means you’re less likely to pass COVID on to your loved ones and people who can’t get vaccinated, like young children.

However, being fully vaccinated will soon open up more opportunities, too.

In October, the Government set out the new COVID-19 Protection Framework.

This will help protect New Zealanders into the future, while providing a pathway out of lockdowns, offering certainty to businesses, and giving vaccinated people more options.

Under the framework, if you’re not fully vaccinated, there will be everyday things you will miss out on.
