Taupo Ladies

It was encouraging to see a great field for our opening day last Saturday. Scores under the Canadian Foursomes were exceptionally good. Winners of the day were Christine Tylden and Dot Hare with a combined nett 64. Christine and Dot won a Merchant voucher each. Runners-up, on a countback, were Carmel Hopkins and Yvonne Raureti-Carson who collected Bottle’O vouchers. Longest putt was Carmel Hopkins while Marlene Nitschke was nearest the pin. The highlight of the day was 8-year-old Taupo junior player Leo Huata partnering with Marlene Nitschke and was in the countback for 2nd place. Leo and his family are moving to Napier and Saturday was his last game for a while at Taupo. He has been playing for about two years with help and encouragement from junior convenor and coach Helen Clelland, volunteer coaches, and his grandparents. Leo is showing tremendous potential and we wish him well in the future.

Ladies 9 Hole

Auckland Anniversary Monday saw 18 starters for Opening Day. We welcomed back some older faces along with two new faces, Liz and Megan. The competition was stableford on the front 9 of Tauhara where a Pro Drive voucher was awarded to Gill Jones for 22 points, and a Bottle’O voucher for Jean Jensen for her 20. A close threesome of Maureen Blackburn, Pip Hull and Prue Ludbrook followed with 19. The closest to the pin was won by Robyn Jessup who pipped Di Eccles. Lots of lovely chip-ins and lengthy putts were talked about and the wonderful roll of the ball given the great condition of the course. Next week we play an Ambrose competition. The starters are Annie Judge and Kirste Byloo.
