Granity's crafty get-togethers

The group was started at St Peter's Church three years ago by Mokihinui woman Lynne McGuire

"But we couldn't meet there over summer so we decided to meet in each other's homes instead," said spokeswoman Aleyne Ingham.

"We weren't friends beforehand but through the group we have all become good friends. It is very sociable and we do more yakking than crafts some days," Ms Ingham said.

The group sometimes meets in local cafés.

The craft interests of the group members vary greatly and includes quilting, applicade embroidery, knitting and painting.

"Sometimes, we all do the same project like the recycled wooden dolls that several of us entered in the local A and P Show. One Christmas, we all decorated gumboots which were displayed in Torea Gallery and Studios." Group members teach their crafts to others who are wanting to learn the techniques.
