She was on the 1997 committee celebrating 125 years of schooling in the area

Her late husband Graeme’s mother, Mrs B Chisnall was on the committee in 1972 for the 100-year celebration, with her mother Mrs Knowles planting a commemorative tree with Mr Stephenson.

Mrs Knowles was on the committee in 1950 for the Silver Jubilee, where she made a three tier jubilee cake.

Her granddaughter, Lois Bennett, will be icing the 2022, 150 year jubilee cake.

In 1935 minutes show Mr Knowles being the first meeting to form a committee of the Old Pupils Association.

Several committee members — Jeanette Wells, Brian and Dawn Thompson, and Colin and Kathy Bush — have also had association with schooling reaching back over many years.

Mary has been supported in her endeavours by her daughter Amanda Abel (nee Chisnall), and her daughter Charlotte.

She is also grateful for the support of locals, teachers and students, who have all pitched in on the committee or in other areas to help make the planning of the Jubilee something for everyone to enjoy and cherish.

Around 250 people are expected to join in the October event, with hundreds being reached through social media, especially Facebook.
