Matariki Ramaroa opens at Maclean Park, Paraparaumu Beach on June 24, the first Matariki public holiday with light sculptures, beach bonfire, musicians, artists and kai over the entire weekend

Matariki Ramaroa is a place to come together in celebration, togetherness, reflection, feasting and fun with light sculptures adorning Kāpiti’s beautiful beachfront.

Fun for the whole whānau to explore this magical mid-winter tradition.

On opening weekend, the Wellington Tramway Museum will also presents Glow, a light and sound event for all ages.

Ride on restored Wellington trams of a bygone era under the stars and look around the light displays supplied by Jonassen Productions.

If you don’t want to park at Queen Elizabeth Park, a bus shuttle service is available from Paraparaumu.

Other events coinciding with Matariki include the Ōtaki Pottery Club’s mid-winter ceramic festival, Star Glaze.

The festival includes pottery demonstrations, raku firing, and blacksmithing demonstrations that you can also have a go at.

Visit the Ōtaki Pottery Club rooms and see members at work from June 23-26.

There will be a food truck for a coffee and delicious snacks. Koha entry. Open 10-4 each day.
