On 29 April Moroccan ambassador HE Karim Medrek addressed a meeting in Wellington on 'The Sahara Issue: Challenges and Prospects'.

On 1 May the NZIIA was associated, with the Aotearoa New Zealand Campaign to Stop Killer Robots, in a meeting hosted by the Centre for Strategic Studies to hear a public presentation by Mary Wareham, advocacy director of Human Rights Watch's Arms Division and global co-ordinator of the Campaign to Stop Killer Robots, on 'Banning Killer Robots'.

On 3 May, to mark World Press Day, a panel discussion was held on 'New Zealand Media Freedom: Current Challenges'. The panellists were Richard Harman (veteran journalist), Dr Andrew Ladley (lawyer specialising in international affairs), Tova O'Brien (Newshub's political editor in the parliamentary Press Gallery) and Nicola Willis MP (National Party). This meeting was held in association with the British and Australian high commissions.

On 14 May Jacek Foks, the deputy director of the Polish Institute of International Affairs, addressed a meeting in Wellington on 'The Foreign Policy of Poland as a Member of the Euro-Atlantic Community'.

A public seminar was held on 17 May with Jean-Christophe Belliard, deputy secretary-general of political affairs in the European External Action Service. This meeting was held in conjunction with the Delegation of the European Union to New Zealand and Russell McVeagh.

On 20 May the NZIIA joined with the National Party to launch National's External Affairs Discussion Document.

Auckland The following meetings were held: 8 Apr HE Dace Treija-Masi (Latvia's ambassador to New Zealand), 'The World Viewed from Riga'. 6 May Kathleen Claussen (University of Miami Law School), 'Re-imagining Trade-Plus Enforcement'. This meeting was co-hosted with the Faculty of Law, University of Auckland, and the International Law Association, Auckland Sub-Branch. 23 May Prof T.V. Paul (McGill University), 'India As A Rising Power: Opportunities and Constraints in the 21st Century'. 10 Jun HE Mario Alzugaray Rodriguez (Cuban ambassador to New Zealand), 'The View from Havana: the World in a Time of Upheaval'. Christchurch

On 23 May Dr Roisin Burke, a senior lecturer at the University of Canterbury's School of Law, spoke on 'Peacekeeper Crimes, Sexual Abuse and Regulations Within the United Nations and African Union Frameworks'.

Hawke's Bay

On 2 May Fiona Cooper of the Australian-New Zealand Leadership Forum addressed the branch on 'Australia--We Really Need You'.
