On 20 June a meeting was arranged at Victoria University of Wellington with assistance from the French Embassy and the Alliance Francaise to hear Lucien Chabason, a French specialist on environment governance, speak on 'Strengthening International Environmental Governance: Recent Developments, Next Steps"

A roundtable on 'ASEAN at Forty' was held on 10 August with the ASEAN Secretary-General Ong Keng Yong, the heads of mission from the ASEAN countries and Asia New Zealand delegates.

On 16 August HE Rosemary Banks (New Zealand's Permanent Representative to the United Nations) addressed a meeting at Victoria University of Wellington on 'The United Nations at 62--Relevant or Becoming Redundant"

Dr Hans Blix, the Chairman of the Weapons of Mass Destruction Commission, delivered the NZIIA's sixth annual foreign policy lecture at Victoria University of Wellington on 31 August.

On 25 September, on the eve of Dominion Day, the NZIIA President Russell Marshall launched Dominion of New Zealand: Statesmen and Status 1907--1945 at a ceremony at Victoria University of Wellington, The book's author is W. David McIntyre, the immediate past president of the NZIIA's Christchurch branch, emeritus professor of history at the University of Canterbury, and a leading authority on the history of the Commonwealth.

At the AGM on 27 March the following officers were elected:

29 Jun Vince McBride (Executive Director of the Pacific Co-operation Foundation), 'The Pacific in the 21st Century: Regional Concepts and Institutions'.

26 Jul Professor Bryan Storey (Director, Gateway Antarctic) and Karen Scott (University of Canterbury Law School) spoke on 'Antarctic Futures: Science, Commerce, the Environment--and the Legal Regime'.
