New centre for gifted pupils open

Enrich@ILT’s centre for talented and gifted pupils officially opened its doors at the Elmwood Gardens on Friday

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held, attended by Associate Minister of Education Jan Tinett and Labour list MP Liz Craig.

The centre is for pupils aged between 7 and 10 years from Invercargill’s 22 primary schools.

Centre manager Peter Forde said it was good to see life inside the building.

‘‘It has been great to be able to be here after a couple of months of drought. It is a great space for learning as we can have five to six teaching spaces at once.

‘‘We look forward to seeing what those kids can achieve with that space.’’

The new facility has more educational equipment, a garden and a kitchen.

‘‘The old space at Dee St was one room, which used to be a nightclub. We adapted and created a great space for children but this one is much more suitable.’’
