Novelty cakes hit the spot

Becky Brand, who spent a lot of her childhood in Reefton, has returned after living in Marlborough for several years, so as to be closer to her mum and to take time for herself.

Becky has 20 years experience in cheffing and baking in the hospitality industry, and opened an American-style diner in Blenheim, Mrs Vercoes Diner.

She started baking cakes in 2014, and the first one was sold to a man on Facebook. Two years later he asked her to make his wedding cake.

All the cakes are made with Becky's own recipe. It takes six to eight hours to make a novelty cake from start to finish.
