The hall was decked out with bunting, flags from across the Commonwealth, photos from across the Queen’s 70-year reign and a range of original Coronation memorabilia that had been tucked away in cupboards.

Community choir Stand Up & Sing opened the tea with a selection of songs from across the United Kingdom, bookended by the New Zealand national anthem and God Save the Queen.
