Throughout the region there is loads on offer this weekend for locals and visitors alike. Here are some suggestions to help you make the most of this weekend.

In the garden

Labour Weekend is the perfect time to be getting into the garden for projects big and small.

Central Campus Giant Plant Sale

It is Giant Plant Sale time at Otago Polytechnics Central Campus on Saturday (October 23) from 9.30am to noon.

There is a fantastic selection of locally grown plants, along with plenty of advice from polytechnic staff and students.

Cash and eftpos available, bring a box or bag and please remember to wear a mask!

Enter via Richards Beach Rd and follow the signs for parking.

Mackies Garden Centre

Mackies Garden Centre on Letts Gully Rd has all you need for everything gardening.

From a big selection of hardy shrubs and trees, spring delights and a range of fertilisers to keep things growing strong, they will be able to help you prepare for a big weekend of gardening.

They are open all weekend from 10am to 4pm.

Browse the local markets

There are an array of local markets happening throughout the region — a great chance to pick up local produce and crafts.

Cromwell Farmers’ and Craft Market

Labour Weekend marks the return of the Cromwell Farmers’ and Craft Market.

Situated next to Lake Dunstan in the Cromwell Heritage Precinct, the market is a ‘‘must do’’ on a Sunday trip to Cromwell.

Stalls are full of delicious food and produce as well as local arts and crafts.

Allow time to stroll through the precinct when you are there. It is a true gem beside the lake and cycling and walking trail.

Open Sunday (October 24) from 9am to 1pm. Alert Level 2 restrictions apply.

The Burns Labour Weekend Market Day

This annual market day at the Ranfurly Holiday Park is a regular fundraiser for schools, and community and sporting groups from the Maniototo.

A car boot sale has been incorporated, too, so there is loads for you to choose from.

Open Saturday (October 23) from 10am to 1pm.

Clyde and Districts Lions Club Garage and Car Boot Sale

The Clyde and Districts Lions Club are holding a garage and car boot sale on Saturday (October 23) between 9am and 3pm.

Held at 1 McMurray Pl, Clyde, there is a range of items on offer and there are still spaces available if you are wanting to book a spot for the car boot sale. It’s a great way to clear some space before Christmas.
