The event, which attracts anglers of all abilities, raises funds for local businesses — this year’s organiser and beneficiary’s again the GY Playgroup, which is raising money for the town’s early childhood education centre project

‘‘There’s very minimal full-time childcare in Glenorchy and it’s a need that really, really needs to be met if our community can have any chance at growing, so we want the facilities to help match the growth of the town,’’ organiser Jess Burke says.

Funds raised will go towards extending the playgroup’s current facility and opening a new centre which’ll provide before- and after-school care and school holiday programmes.

Burke says anyone’s welcome to come and fish — a fishing licence is required — and pre-registration is encouraged, though people can register on the day between 6am and 10am at the Glenorchy Hall.
