Robinson returns to form in Italy

Robinson (21) finished eighth in the Kronplatz round of the FIS giant slalom world cup yesterday

It was her best result at a giant slalom world cup since March 2021, and will be another nice confidence boost after a difficult 2022 that included a rough experience at the Beijing Olympics.

From the moment Robinson pushed out of the start gate, she took command of the course with her trademark aggressive skiing, and with her timing on point, she was able to generate huge amounts of power and take a tight line.

After run one, she was visibly pleased with her performance, sitting in seventh place, just 1.15sec behind the leader, American great Mikaela Shiffrin.

As the snowflakes began to fall, Robinson launched out of the start gate into her second run. She attacked the course with grit and determination, but a couple of scrappy turns resulted in valuable hundredths of seconds being lost.

Robinson finished in eighth place, 2.12sec behind the winner.

This marked Shiffrin’s 83rd world cup win and the title of the most successful female ski racer in history.

Lara Gut-Behrami (Switzerland) finished in second place, with Federica Brignone (Italy) rounding out the podium in third.

After a challenging 2021-22 season, Robinson swapped to a new equipment brand before the 2022 New Zealand season.

She has been working hard with her team to maximise the performance of the equipment, and the result in Italy suggests her hard work is paying off.
