Organiser, Queenstown Scot Chris Hutton, says by the end of last year’s inaugural event, marking the birth of his native country’s most famous poet, Robbie Burns, ‘‘I was literally told by many people I had to do it again’’

‘‘A lassie I know came out of the toilets crying and I said, ‘what’s up?’

‘‘She said, ‘oh, you’ve transported me back to Scotland for the night’.’’

About half of last year’s attendees dressed in tartan — ‘‘I kind of encourage that’’, Hutton says.

A Ceilidh’s a traditional Scottish or Irish social gathering, usually involving dancing and playing Gaelic music.
