Otatara School principal Sharon Livingstone said she was grateful for the work the school’s parent group did with its fundraising efforts

‘‘It’s wonderful when they seize opportunities like this.’’

It was the first time the school had taken part in the Sharks basketball fundraising initiative.

Mrs Livingstone said it was possible the funds raised from the event would go towards physical education equipment.

But some classes were writing to the parent group to apply for funding for specific projects.

One of the classrooms was recently refurbished and had kitchen facilities.

‘‘They’re keen to write to ask for some pots and bits and pieces for their technology kitchen spaces.’’

Otatara School Parent Group president Emma Lindsay said about 130 tickets had been sold, with 50% of the sales being retained by the school.

‘‘It’s awesome for the community and a great way to get along to sports events.’’

For many of the pupils it would be the first time they had attended a sporting event like this, she said.
