Shooting for the moon fundraiser

Shoot For the Moon is a fundraiser based around the 384,000km from Earth to the Moon, says Cancer Society North Canterbury fundraising and events manager, Tiffany Wafer

‘‘We are super excited to be bringing you this cool new fundraising event, raising not only crucial funds, but also awareness about cancer, and encouraging our communities to be active in mind and body, while having fun,’’ she says.

The challenge is for individuals or teams to shoot 384 goals in their chosen sport during June and July and gain sponsorship for their efforts.

‘‘So as well as shooting 384 goals, we would love it if you set yourself a fundraising target of $384 or more,’’ Tiffany says.

The famous quote, ‘‘Shoot for the Moon, even if you miss you will land among the stars’’ is certainly the case in this fundraiser with stars of all ages taking part, including Isaac Haslett, aged 8, of Ashley, who at last count was heading the fundraisers’ leader board with $526 raised so far.

Isaac wanted to be involved in the fundraiser to support his beloved Poppa, Jed Mardon, of Cust, who was diagnosed with cancer 13 months ago.

Another fundraising star, Rosa Hyde, aged 13, of Rangiora, is taking part in to support family members who have had cancer, but also as part of her William Pike Challenge. She has raised $414 so far.

Participants can fundraise solo or in a team.
