FAIRVIEW LADIES 18 HOLE

The numbers of 18 hole Ladies have risen steadily over recent months to now have 51 members. The best rate ever of 42 turned up to play in the Russell trophy competition which was Canadian Foursomes with drawn partners. Scoring was done on the combination of both players’ handicaps with a percentage of that as their handicap for the day.

After the weather having had such a large influence on their golf over the last months the ladies were treated to a calm, overcast and warm day to be able to play the full course.

Results: The winning pair Georgie Sorokin and Dorothy Moore – 63 net. Second; Joan Irwin and Cherie Bickerton – 65 net. Third equal; Janice Shea and Annette Labrum, Shannon Richards and Kim Ward – 66 net. Fifth; Cheryl Hobin and Ann Crawford – 67 net. Sixth: Heidi Tormey and Diana Jopling – 70 net.

■ Strokeplay championships

After a couple of unscheduled delays, the Fairview 18 hole ladies stroke play champs finally got under way on Friday, October 15. The weather cooperated, the course condition was superb, and the turnout impressive. At stake, for each division, was the opportunity to represent Fairview at the Bay of Plenty Champion of Champions in November. Winner of the silver section, played over 36 holes was Terri Heyes with a gross score of 164, followed closely by Joan Irwin with 167. Bronze 1 winner was Rosie O’Brien with 178; runner up was Georgie Sorokin with 188. Bronze 2, played over 18 holes, was won by Karen Crosby with 95; Annette Perkins was runner up with 99.

FAIRVIEW 9 HOLE LADIES

Twenty eight players finished their season with a fun Mystery Stableford competition randomly drawn to play in fours from Div 1 and Div 2. Drizzly weather encasing the Kaimai Ranges drifted over from time to time but did not cause any issues. The Mystery was further enhanced by choosing 3 x pairs of cards at random, not even adding the scores but giving all six ladies a pink ball for their efforts. The remaining two balls were each given to Jo Carnachan and Chris Nickel as they have both returned to golf in time for summer.
