Stalls, rides canned at Get to the Point

The fun day this Saturday at Pleasant Point was due to be in full swing with a range of fun events.

The organisers hoped that COVID-19 restrictions would ease leading up to the day.

However, with the South Island remaining at Alert Level 2, the decision was made to cancel the entertainment, displays, activities and rides. There will also be no car show and no market stalls in Main Rd.

President and event organiser Grace McGrath said the decision was not taken lightly.

‘‘With current Level 2 rules and the need to ensure we follow public health protocols, the family fun day aspects of the day cannot go ahead.

‘‘The committee wants to run activities that are compliant to ensure that we all remain safe.’’

Some activities will still go ahead with Alert Level 2 restrictions, including the Gymkhana Shears, highland dancing, dog trials, and tug-o-war.

The Weekend Escape raffle will still be drawn under police supervision at 3pm.
