Swap Shop marks 10th anniversary

The Swap Shop is a community-based store that allows items to be exchanged for vouchers, which can then be redeemed in the shop for other goods.

Manager Annette Patterson described it as ‘‘shopping without money’’.

During its decade of operation, the shop’s many local volunteers had prevented more than $361,520 worth of items going to landfill, Mrs Patterson said.

To celebrate the anniversary, the Swap Shop had organised an online wearable art competition. People were asked to create a masterpiece using wearable art, then email in the photo.

“There were lots of entries, with three classes at The Catlins Area School also entering as part of class projects,’’ Mrs Patterson said.
