Taking a step up at Sotheby’s

Hall, 50, is a senior manager with New Zealand Sotheby’s International Realty (NZSIR), a national realtor born and headquartered in Queenstown.

She’s been the agency’s national brand and marketing manager since joining it in 2014, and last year added the new role of general manager operations.

Hailing from Ireland, she had a distinguished career in advertising agencies, working with global brands like Unilever, Mastercard, Coca-Cola and General Motors in either her home country, England or France.

Amongst major campaigns she oversaw the relaunch of Coca-Cola brand Sprite and she was behind the famous ‘Real Beauty for Real Women’ campaign by Unilever brand Dove, which was about empowering women.

She shifted to Queenstown in 2004 after coming here for a TV shoot and meeting her husband-to-be who was cast as the lead.

Her first job was managing the local Fairfax (now Stuff) newspaper office.

She then started selling real estate during the GFC when she joined the then owners of the local Bayleys franchise in 2010.

‘‘Having that background of having sold is really valuable,’’ she says of her current career.

Hall was later Queenstown Resort College’s business development manager, which she enjoyed, but like these other roles admits she didn’t really find her groove.

That changed when she joined NZSIR.

She says she was inspired by getting to know the local-based owners Julian Brown and Mark Harris and seeing how they were growing a national brand out of Queenstown.

‘‘We’re very different people but the combination works really well.’’

In her time with them, the company’s grown from about 10 offices to 19, with about 250 staff around NZ.

‘‘It’s great to be a part of it because we’re still really young, I mean, 2005 [when it started] is yesterday in the scheme of things.

‘‘We’re not the biggest agency and we’re not looking to be, but we’d like to be the best...
