While initially the bidding was as ferocious as the weather outside the selling shed, a couple of key regular buyers being absent, through both ill health and bulls not being required, saw the average slip down from previous years and nine bulls not find a home

Nevertheless the Friels were happy to see many of their long term buyers not only get the bulls they wanted but for very good prices with several bulls selling for the first bid of $5000.

In the end 34/43 bulls offered were sold for an average price of $9676. Lewis Small of Pongaroa, beat off some fierce competition and secured Lot 8, a very promising home bred son of Mt Mable Intrigue 1790, for $20,000.

Two other Intrigue sons made similar money with one, 2030, going to stud duties at Ratanui Stud at Wairoa for $19,000 and another, 2062, sold for $18,000. He will be...
