Trail ride reopens after one year hiatus

It typically attracted about 400 riders and was a great day out on the motorbike, organiser Morgan Tremaine said.

‘‘We’ve had a lot of good feedback in the past about our rides.’’

The event offered two different loop tracks, one 20km long and the other 55km, with both having optional ‘‘expert sections’’.

The different options allowed riders of all ages and abilities to participate and experience more areas, Mr Tremaine said.

‘‘People often ride both [loops] during the day.’’

Starting at 1477 Waimea Valley Rd, the route headed northwest out to the Hokonui Hills.

‘‘It’s unreal from up top. You pretty much see right up to Mossburn and Garston, right round Clinton and out to Bluff.’’

After COVID-19 restrictions put a stop to the event last year, Mr Tremaine was excited to be able to host the trail ride once again.

‘‘We’re really looking forward to it.’’

Riders under 16 could enter for $35, while those over 16 could enter for $50. A BBQ lunch is included with entry.
