Two Lions recognised for outstanding service

In 2017, Lions turned 100 years old

The 100th year of serving local communities and the globe was celebrated at the Lions Clubs’ International Centennial Convention in Chicago, Illinois, the same United States city where the association began.

Today, there are 9500 members and 350 Lions Clubs in seven districts throughout New Zealand and the South Pacific.

Their goal is to bring service and assistance to their communities and celebrate kindness and diversity through serving.

Lions Clubs appreciate their members and celebrate them wherever they can, and the Milton Lions demonstrated it perfectly recently.

The Milton Lions celebrated two of their members who received a Lloyd Morgan Lions life membership last Friday.

The life membership is the organisation’s highest honour and is awarded to Lions whose contributions deserve special recognition.

Recipients receive a framed certificate and lapel pin.

Mel Tapp and Rob McElrea have continued to dedicate time and support to Milton Lions and have logged more than 89 years of service between them.

‘‘It was a really amazing night for the Lions on Friday, and it was very special as one of the membership recipients was my father. I couldn’t have been a more proud son that night,’’ fellow Lion Richard McElrea said.

This award was well deserved and the rest of the club thanked them both for all they have done and still do for Milton Lions.
