Sea Week on the West Coast

The national Sea Week campaign is led by the Sir Peter Blake Marine Education and Recreation Centre

It is a campaign that is especially important to the Department of Conservation to help promote a love and understanding of how precious our marine environments are. Experts estimate that up to 85% of New Zealand's total wildlife could be in the ocean.

Several schools in South Westland will be getting involved and learning more about marine reserves with a field trip to the seashore. This will give them a chance to explore the marine environment and learn about the unique creatures that live here, with the expertise of West Coast marine reserves ranger Don Neale.

Earlier this week Don spoke about our marine reserves at evening talks held in Okarito and Haast.

DOC is also holding a regional photo competition. It is encouraging West Coast...
