In the latest issue of the NZIR (vol 31, no 4), the article 'Australia and New Zealand: like-minded defence partners?' was of considerable interest. However, it is based entirely on material published some time ago. The relationship has moved on from 'Defence 2000: Our Future Defence Force,' 'Defence Policy Framework', 'Foreign and Security Policy Challenges' and 'Strategic Assessment 2000'--all published in 2000. Historical surveys have their place, but these are not 'recent policy statements' as suggested in the introduction to this article.

Further, a couple of the photographs are suspect. The HMAS Westphalia is certainly the HMAS Westralia. The replacement tanker, still uncommissioned, is known as Nuship Sirius. The pictured RAAF Boeing 737 Wedgetip is a Boeing 737 Wedgetail. The photo...
