Stella Daniell was a highly-regarded member of the editorial committee of New Zealand International Review in the late 1980s and 1990s. Stella had worked in communications and editing jobs and it was this experience which drew her to NZIR, but she also brought to participation in the committee her passion for the environment and her feminism, in both of which she could readily challenge the (mostly male!) committee members of those days. Conversations at the two-monthly mail-outs of the magazine, when Stella was present, regularly generated what is sometimes called a 'free and frank exchange of ideas'--so long as such be understood to include lots of laughter and good humour.
