Big scores as Mussel Rock win

Mussel Rock Cafe also hosted the 3rd Rock v Waipapakauri match where 46-ton pluses were hit. Melena Thomas and Mary-Ann Johnston led the 3rd Rock scoring while for Waipapakauri John Marinkovich hit a 174, Mario Marinkovich hit the match’s highest finish of 93 and Jo Steed hit 12-ton pluses. Esther Heka had a couple of good wins for 3rd Rock but Waipapakauri took out the match 18/2

Lucid Cafe B hosted Tuatua Tavern where Bruce McIntosh hit eight tons and the match’s highest finish of 67. Cliff Ward led the Lucid Cafe scoring and along with Sylvia Matthews got some good wins. Warren Scott won all his singles for Tuatua who crafted a solid 15/5 win.

Kaitaia Rsa hosted the Kauri v Wild Cards match where Donna Smith hit seven tons and the match’s highest finish of 96. Dave Ihaka and Tamarangi Toia had some great wins for the Wild Cards and while overall there were 34 big tons hit, most were from Rsa Kauri which won the match 14/6.

Houhora Bowling Club hosted the Icey Camel v Nomads contest where two 180s were hit, one each for Harry Tepania and Memphis Ngaruhe. Memphis also hit a 106 finish that was just under the 130 match-highest finish for Nomads’ Vince Saulo. John Stewart hit a 15 darter and won all his singles games but the Icey Camel were no match for the Nomads that waltzed home 15/5.

Ahipara Arrows hosted the Coopers Beach Coasters where visitors Rene Bruce and Kelvin Marinkovich each hit a 180. Kelvin also hit the match-high finish of 64. Trina Baker and Leon Matthews led the Arrows’ attack but of the 57-ton pluses hit Rene hit 14, Paul Barker hit 13 and Coasters won 20/0.

90 Mile Awanui hosted the Ahipara Arrows where three 180s were hit, one each for Darryl Smith, Jason Matthews and Herb Rollo. Herb also hit nine other big tons and the match-high finish of 78. Steve Doak had a 20-ton tally that...
