It was part of the West Coast Farm Plan Project a variety of guest speakers provided in-depth information and insight into the importance of preparing for winter, covering animal welfare and correct practice in pasture usage and cropping

Justin Kitto from Dairy NZ shared his knowledge on winter management practices and having a winter grazing programme in place.

Lawrence Cohen from West Coast Vets spoke on the importance of animal nutrition and welfare issues during the winter period, while Danielle Holland from Ospri talked on animal movement recording requirements for NAIT and also biosecurity.

Lyn Carmichael, who works for the West Coast Farm Plan Project, spoke on wintering as a component of farm plans.

There were open discussions throughout the morning with farmers making use of the key speakers' expertise about planning for winter farming on the West Coast.
