Plans are well under way for the NZMCA National Rally 2024, which event convenor Ken Leslie said looked set to attract between 700 and 1000 vans

"It's hard to tell the exact numbers as registration for the event only opens in August but the general feeling is that we need to add 20% on normal attendance due to the Coast's popularity."

NZMCA West Coast branch, Area 71, last held a big event in Reefton in 2020 with the 'Top of the South' rally.

"Normally around 200 caravans would attend but we had 475! Motorhome owners really love coming to Reefton and the Coast," Mr Leslie said.

The event will begin on Thursday, February 22, with registrations at the venue. A 40m by 60m marquee has been hired. All the 'formalities' will be held on Friday morning, including presentations of the recognition of long service membership in the association and a panel discussion with board members.

"Life memberships will also be presented."

Mr Leslie said that 'trade display stands' would be on site which had relevance to the motorhome owners. There would also be workshops throughout the weekend on topics of interest such as e-bikes, solar power in caravans and wireless connections.

Bus or van tours would also be available to a variety of places of interest close by including museums and the brewery, as well as further afield. There would be live entertainment in the marquee each night.

"We are looking for local sports clubs and organisations that would like to be involved in running fundraising stalls. We are hoping to have coffee carts parked there all weekend, as well as food stalls."
