Far North Darts Association season gets under way

The Coopers Beach Coasters were at home taking on Tuatua Tavern. There were 81 ton-pluses hit. Kelvin Marinkovich hit 19 while teammate Rene Bruce hit 16. Fellow Coaster Paul Barker chimed in with a very creditable 14-dart leg. Quinton Veitch hit 13 tons for Tuatua Tavern while Warren Scott hit the match’s highest finish of 125. Coasters look strong and won the battle of the East Coast 19/1

RSA Cruisers had a home advantage facing the 90 Mile Awanui team, with 53 tons recorded including a 180 each for Darryl Smith and Tom. The top ton scorers were Tai, who had seven tons for the Cruisers, while Darryl hit 12 for 90 Mile. For 90 Mile, Jody Hunter hit the match’s highest finish of 76 and won all his singles games while Kylo Bell won three of his singles games to help 90 Mile win the match 15/5.

At Houhora, Lucid Cafe A hosted new team Raiders that are based at the Kaitaia Rugby Club. Seventy big tons were noted with Raiders Issac Ashley hitting 24 of them, including a 180. Richard Whittaker led the scoring for Lucid Cafe with nine big tons. Nelson Ashley hit the match’s highest finish of 100, Albz Swartz hit 14 tons and the Raiders won their inaugural match 17/3.

Last year’s champions Awanui Nomads took on the visiting RSA Kauri team and 54 ton-pluses were recorded, with Hohua Clarke hitting a 180 in his 11-ton tally and Harry Tepania hitting the match-highest finish of 108 in his 13-ton tally. Leevon Popata and Donna Smith led the Kauri scoring and while Leevon had a couple of good wins, the Nomads were all solid, winning the match 15/5.

RSA Panthers took on last year’s runners-up Mussel Rock and there were 79 ton-pluses hit, 53 of them from Mussel Rock. Ian Webb had 13 big tons for the Panthers, including a 174, while Mussel Rock hit three 180s, two for Jack Mitchell and one for Marshall Cook. Mussel Rock looked sharp and with Jaymie Hilton-Jones leading the Mussel Rock ton tally, hitting 21 big scores, they won the match 18/2.

RSA Totara had the visiting Ahipara Aces to contend with and there were 57-ton pluses hit that included nine tons for Simon Job, including a 180, while Dan Job hit the match-highest finish of 96. Robbie Matthews led the...
