Gurpreet was recently named dairy manager of the year at the West Coast Top of the South Dairy Industry Awards and went on to compete at the nationals.

While winning the regional title was a real highlight, he says competing in the national event was a great experience.

"I didn't win at the nationals but it was a very cool experience and I learnt a lot," he said.

"Meeting people and the diff erent farming styles and ways of doing things and making contact with a lot of important people in the dairy industry especially."

Gurpreet says having the responsibility for running a multi million dollar operation in Westport is a far cry from assisting on the family farm as a young man growing up in India.
