I enjoyed hearing from each organisation about the great work they do, whether it be in an emergency rescue capacity, selling donated items to raise money for charity, or keeping our more vulnerable community members fed and cared for

I thank each and every one of you who generously helps in this way, and encourage others with a bit of time on their hands to consider joining a volunteer group.

Earlier in the month I hosted Simeon Brown, Nationals transport spokesperson, in the Waimakariri to show him some of the issues we face as the district grows.

First up was a drive through the congestion on Southbrook Road to see where the proposed Rangiora Eastern Bypass would take much of the traffic away from Southbrook and up to Northbrook Road and beyond. This needs to be a priority for the local council and transport agency, and while it is on the long-term radar I would urge them not to delay this project.

I also took Simeon to visit my Youth MP Hillary Cooper in Oxford to find out about her project getting more young people driving safely on our roads.
