The trophy was decided by the average scores of each gender, and the winners for 2022 were the women’s team by an average of 1.40 strokes. The top score in the ladies was Carol Leary (36) and Jill Morrison (35). John Saunders (36) and Ken Purcell (34) were the best of the men.VETS: Twenty-seven members braved the elements to try to qualify for the vets’ matchplay competition. The haggle of the day was stableford. The best score was a 34 recorded by Tim Parish, followed by Jim Evans, and Bruce Rutter, both with 33, John Purkis (32), and five others on 31

The Nine Hole section held their Nine Hole Invitational on Tuesday, with a great field of 50 women and 18 men. Joining the Waihi players were entries from Walton, Otumoetai, Hauraki, Thames, Whangamata, Te Aroha, and Tairua, who all had to endure only a few brief showers. The stableford division 1 women was won by Denise Bax (Otumoetai) with a great 23 points. The division 2 winner was Waihi’s Denise Morgan with an impressive 19 stableford points. The men’s division was won by local golfer Terry Paterson with 21 points.WEDNESDAY LADIES: On a cold windy morning the ladies held a nett haggle, but frequent cold showers resulted in 30 per cent of the field retiring to warmer climes.
