The five trustees of the RSA Welfare Trust have been busy getting the 4000 poppies ready for the day. Collection buckets will be put out in businesses this week, covering a large area including Clydevale, Clinton, Kaka Point, Owaka, Kaitangata and Balclutha

On Poppy Day, collection points will be set up at the local supermarkets and The Warehouse. These will have paper poppies and a selection of knitted ones for sale.

We are grateful to all those who have contributed with knitted poppies. More than 60 were made by the Clutha District Library Knitting Group. Knitted poppies will cost $3 and a donation is all that is required for a paper poppy.

We would like to thank the local businesses for allowing us to put our poppy buckets in their premises and the amazing generosity of the community.

This is the trust’s only annual fundraiser. All money is spent in the area and is used for the benefit of our elderly welfare members.

We have a monthly afternoon tea with members and friends attending. We invite the rest-homes and it is great to see friends catching up, some who went to school together.

A function is also held at Christmas.

We have assisted with gardening and clothing in the past and are generally there for anyone who may need some kind of assistance. We also co-ordinate assistance with Veterans Affairs for those that require it.

We have a number of mobility scooters we hire out to welfare members and anyone in need of one in the community. They are in big demand and we are thankful for people who have donated scooters.
