Club culture and support ‘fantastic’

The club is now in its 131st year and its culture is incredible

Club president Chris Chittock said the club was amazing.

‘‘We’re very lucky in our club to have a strong contingent of Samoan players and members of our club, which keep our premier team on the field.

‘‘Our club culture here is fantastic and we’ve got an abundance of support locally, from sideline supporters to sponsors.

‘‘The club definitely wouldn’t be as great as it is today without the people behind the scenes, so we’re very appreciative of them.’’

The premier and multiple junior teams make up the club, alongside families, friends of players and supporters.

The aim was to keep progressing the club each year and keep evolving the amazing culture of Owaka both on and off the field, Chittock said.

The premiers have an average player age of around 30 years old but that does not stop the boys from going hard at every game.

The Owaka Rugby Club is incredibly diverse and its dedicated committee goes above and beyond for the club.

Each year, it hosts a club day, where all of the club’s players, supporters and families come together to make a special day throughout the community.

This year, their club day will be on May 11.

Players both young and old schedule game days at various times to support each other and cheer Owaka on as a club.
