Dogs have their day at agility show

Clutha Dog Agility Society members Allen Booth and Megan Fuehrer recently entered in the Otago Canine Training Club champion show at Forrester Park in Dunedin

The pair came out of the show with awards for their dog entries.

Mr Booth claimed first place in the ‘‘starters’’, second in the ‘‘novice’’ and fourth in the ‘‘jumpers C’’ categories at the champion show with his collie working dog Hannah.

Mrs Fuehrer won fifth place in the ‘‘jumpers C’’ category with her Dalmatian Penny.

Their dogs had to compete in various courses to test their strength and agility.

The pair were up against entries from as far south as Invercargill and as far north as Christchurch.

While this was Mrs Fuehrer’s first show, Mr Booth has been entering his dogs in agility shows for more than 30 years with his wife Katherine.

Mr Booth said the pair receiving ribbons was a ‘‘fantastic achievement.’’

‘‘It can be very difficult to win a ribbon at champion shows,’’ he said.

‘‘There can be between 30-40 dogs in any category.

‘‘You have to train your dog very consistently in order to obtain a ribbon...
