South Alive community development manager Courtney Ellison said there had been a lot happening around the city to celebrate Matariki

‘‘We wanted to put an event on for whanau in South Invercargill to celebrate Matariki.’’

She was really pleased with the number of people representing generations of families who turned up to support the Sunday event.

Children were given art supplies to colour their work that was themed around the stars of Matariki, which rise in midwinter and, for many, herald the start of a new year.
